A rare bit of positive news in a turbulent year: clean industry investment is accelerating. Data from our newly-published Global Project Tracker update shows that 19 commercial-scale clean industrial projects reached final investment decision in the past six months – more than double the pace of a year ago.

The flagship project demonstrates a pathway for building green ammonia facilities, with its repurposed brownfield site, access to round-the-clock green power and a lower cost of capital because of its location in India. It also shows the importance of thinking about the entire value chain when looking at the viability of clean industry projects – not just end customers but suppliers as well.

2026 is on track to be the strongest year for clean industry investment to date. 19 commercial-scale projects worth $43 billion reached final investment decision (FID) in the last six monthsmore than double the pace of a year earlier, despite ongoing geopolitical headwinds.

A new report from Mission Possible Partnership, Clean Industry Rising: the foundation of resilient value chains, supported by the Industrial Transition Accelerator, published alongside its latest Global Project Tracker, reveals that 19 clean industry projects reached final investment decision in the past six months – more than double the rate recorded a year earlier and worth an estimated $43 billion.

Kassø, in southern Denmark, is now home to one of the world’s first operational e-methanol facilities, producing 42,000 tonnes per year from a 304 MW solar park, a 52 MW electrolyser and biogenic CO₂ captured from a local biogas facility. It reached FID in January 2022 without operating subsidies and started operations in 2025.

For the aviation sector, the transition to sustainable fuels is just getting started, but it is one of the areas where progress is fastest, with eight projects reaching FID in the past 18 months.

CISRI’s Linyi project in Shandong Province represents one of the most significant breakthroughs in global iron and steel decarbonisation. As an industrial-scale pure hydrogen direct reduced iron (DRI) facility, the project demonstrates China’s ambition to advance to near-zero carbon metallurgy by combining long-term research, abundant renewable energy resources and state-backed industrial innovation.
