Clean fuels and materials rarely travel in a straight line from producer to buyer — they share pipelines, ports and processing plants with conventional products, passing through many hands before reaching the automotive, construction or shipping sectors that use them. Mass balance is one of the key tools helping track and verify low-emission content through this shared infrastructure, but its flexibility means not all systems are equally credible.
